Three Things to Know Before Open Enrollment Closes

Open Enrollment is short

Kentucky's Open Enrollment window runs October 6–24. Miss it, and your FSA election is locked for another year.

FSA dollars don't roll over

Kentucky's Healthcare FSA only carries over up to $660. Unused balances above that are forfeited Dec 31.

GLP-1 and ED May Qualify

Many state employees don't realize GLP-1 and ED treatment can count as a qualified medical expense — with the right documentation.

This is where CommonHealth comes in. Every patient goes through a real clinical intake — including a BMI and health assessment — with a licensed Kentucky provider. We provide you with the documentation required for HSA and FSA benefits to be applied.

Plain-English Explainer

How FSA and HSA Actually Work for Treatment Plans

If you're on a KEHP health plan, here's what applies to you:

  • LivingWell CDHP, PPO, or Basic CDHP: You can elect a Healthcare FSA — up to $3,300 pre-tax for 2026 — through Open Enrollment. FSA funds can be used for qualified medical expenses, including prescription treatment for a diagnosed condition.
  • LivingWell HDHP: You're eligible to contribute to your own HSA outside of KEHP, and use those pre-tax dollars the same way.

The key rule: the IRS treats obesity as a diagnosed medical condition. That means GLP-1 treatment prescribed to treat obesity or a related condition may qualify as a reimbursable medical expense under your FSA or HSA — as long as it's backed by proper documentation from a licensed provider.

General weight-loss expenses without a diagnosis do not qualify.

Common Questions

FAQ

Are treatment plans guaranteed to be FSA/HSA eligible?

No one can guarantee that — it depends on your plan administrator's review of your documentation. What we can guarantee is that you'll have a real clinical record behind your treatment, which is what administrators generally require.

What if I don't have an FSA or HSA yet?

Kentucky's Open Enrollment (October 6–24) is your window to elect a Healthcare FSA for 2026, or confirm HSA eligibility if you're on the LivingWell HDHP. After that, you're locked in until next year unless you have a qualifying life event.

Will my FSA card work at checkout?

It may, depending on how your card issuer processes the charge. To be safe, we provide an itemized receipt with every order so you can submit for reimbursement directly with HealthEquity if your card doesn't clear automatically.

Do I need to already have a diagnosis?

No — your assessment and Good Faith Exam with our clinical team is how that documentation gets created.

Is this the same as what my KEHP health insurance covers?

No. Some KEHP plans now offer limited GLP-1 coverage directly through insurance. CommonHealth is a separate, cash-pay clinical pathway — faster access, personalized dosing, and no insurance approval delays. Many patients use CommonHealth specifically because it doesn't depend on insurance pre-authorization.
